2.5D Gear Spin
A short 2.5D animation of a gear to be used in a product minigame, and a breakdown of how I achieved the effect.
About This Project
This project was a proof-of-concept requested by the creative director for use on the results screen of an educational minigame. The goal was to create a dynamic gear effect from flat artwork.
I separated the original 2D image into layers in Photoshop, created a filled silhouette of the gear, and imported the assets into After Effects. From there, I wrote a script that automatically targeted duplicate silhouette layers and used a controller to adjust their distance and offset. With a simple slider to fine-tune the Y-offset, the effect came together into the final animated result.
