Olivia - Character Animation
An instructional 2D character animation brought to life in Adobe Character Animator
About This Project
This video was produced during my time at Reading Horizons, a literacy-focused software company. It served as an introduction for students learning to use “Vowel Valley” as a phonemic device.
My role centered on bringing the character Olivia to life through rigging and animation. Starting from flat artwork, I cleaned and prepared the assets in Photoshop, then rigged them into a 2D puppet using Adobe Character Animator. The rig used inverse kinematics for natural limb movement, facial tracking via camera for performance capture, and keyframing for gestures such as arms and fingers. Additional details, like Olivia’s ponytails, were animated with dynamic simulations to respond to gravity and motion.
The resulting video was integrated directly into the software, helping students stay engaged during instructional segments and making the learning experience more interactive.
